New Jersey Governor and 2016 presidential candidate Chris Christie strongly endorsed term limits on Congress today, telling MSNBC’s Morning Joe panel that “it’s time to get these guys the hell out of Washington.”

“That’s why I’m for term limits,” Christie said. “And I’ve been for term limits my entire career,” he added, before listing a series of broken promises from current GOP leadership.

Christie, like the American people, doesn’t see term limits as a left or right issue. To him, it’s about removing corrupt career politicians in both parties and replacing them with citizen legislators.

As president, Christie would have no direct role in amending the Constitution to include term limits on Congress. He would, however, be able to exert enormous pressure on Congress to initiate the amendment, or ask states to pass applications for the Article V Term Limits Convention.
